When working with Microsoft Defender 365, you might occasionally encounter scenarios where legitimate users get blocked or restricted due to security triggers. Whether it’s a false positive or a resolved issue, unblocking these users is essential to ensure smooth operations.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process to identify restricted users and unblock them effectively in Microsoft Defender 365. By the end, you’ll know how to:

  • Access the Restricted entities list,

  • Identify blocked users,

  • Safely unblock them while maintaining security compliance.

Let’s dive in!

1) First, sign in to your Microsoft account using an email with admin access. Then, navigate to the "Security" tab to access the Microsoft Defender dashboard.

Alternatively, you can use this link to go directly to the Microsoft Defender dashboard if you're already signed in to your admin account.

2) Once you’ve successfully accessed the Microsoft Defender dashboard, navigate to the left-hand side of the screen and find the "Email & collaboration" category. Within it, select the "Review" subcategory.

3) In the opened menu, select the window labeled "Restricted Entities".

4) A window will appear showing all of your temporarily blocked accounts. To unblock an account, select it using the checkbox and click the "Unblock" button.

5) Next, Outlook will provide detailed information and recommendations regarding blocking your email. Once you’ve reviewed it, you can click the "Next" button.

6) Following that, click the "Submit" button.

7) Then, confirm the action and click the "Yes" button.
